Overdraft protection helps cover purchase transactions that exceed your available balance. ATM withdrawals, bill payments made within the app and sending money to others are not covered by overdraft protection. You must have an activated, chip-enabled debit card and opt in to overdraft protection to be covered. A $15 fee may apply.
Monthly fee is waived when you receive $1,000 or greater in payroll or government benefits direct deposits in the previous monthly statement period. Otherwise, $4.95 per month.
Many times, your employer or benefits provider will notify us of your incoming deposit in advance of your actual payday. If they do, we will credit your pay or benefits to your account when they give us that advance notice instead of waiting for payday. However, the exact time of day that your paycheck or benefit payment is deposited into your account will usually vary from payday to payday because employers and benefits providers often send payment instructions at different times from pay period to pay period, and also fraud prevention restrictions may apply. As such, the availability or timing of early direct deposit may vary from pay period to pay period. If you don't get it as early as you did the previous pay period, it doesn't mean there's something wrong or that we're holding on to it. It just means we haven't received it yet.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT — To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.

2. Opt-in required. Account must have initial eligible direct deposits, must be in good standing and have an activated chip-enabled debit card to opt-in. Ongoing eligible direct deposits and other criteria apply to maintain eligibility for overdraft protection. Only debit card purchase transactions are eligible for overdraft protection and overdrafts are paid at our discretion. We reserve the right not to pay overdrafts. For example, we may not pay overdrafts if the account is not in good standing, or is not receiving ongoing eligible direct deposits, or has too many overdrafts. Overdraft fees may cause your account to be overdrawn by an amount that is greater than your overdraft coverage. A $15 fee may apply to each eligible purchase transaction that brings your account negative. Balance must be brought to at least $0 within 24 hours of authorization of the first transaction that overdraws your account to avoid a fee. Learn more.

4. Early direct deposit availability depends on payor type, timing, payment instructions, and bank fraud prevention measures. As such, early direct deposit availability may vary from pay period to pay period. The name and Social Security number on file with your employer or benefits provider must match your Green Dot Bank account to prevent fraud restrictions on the account.
